PMA Statement on Violence at the Capitol

January 7, 2021

Washington, D.C. –Executive Director Chad Hooper of the Professional Managers Association (PMA) – formed in 1981 by IRS Managers as a national membership association representing the interests of professional managers, management officials and non-bargaining unit employees in the federal government –released the following statement regarding what occurred on Capitol Hill yesterday:

“Our nation has a long history of peaceful transitions of power. PMA is deeply saddened by the violent actions which took place yesterday aimed at undermining our democracy and destroying that legacy of peace,” Hooper explained.

“Our members take pride in working for the federal government and supporting our nation’s citizens as all Members of Congress and their staff do. The attack on the U.S. Capitol, a living symbol of the vitality of our Republic, is an insult to all government employees and all people of the nation we serve. OurConstitution outlines natural rights to protest and engage in civil discourse, but the actions we saw yesterday were not protests nor civil,”Hooper furthered.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with all those in the Washington DC area impacted by violence. We stand with Americans calling for unity, peace, and civility. As a nation, we must choose to be better than the events of this week. We must choose to move forward. Congress set a strong example of this as they returned to work through the night yesterday to certify the election results. It is our hope this is the start of a brighter new beginning,” Hooper concluded.
